On Wednesday, March 2 sixth-graders got to chat with a guest speaker over zoom. They had the opportunity to speak with Tasia Hudson, a former aerospace engineer. She is the aunt of one of the students at RIA.
Ms. Hudson studied aerospace engineering at the University of Illinois and currently works at Raytheon Technologies and works in HR to help engineers develop their careers.
She talked about the different types of engineers, what engineers do, and talked about the schooling it takes to become an engineer.
The opportunity came at the perfect time since the students have been reading Hidden Figures, the story of the first four women to become mathematicians and engineers at NASA. This was a great opportunity for students to engage with someone who has walked in their footsteps and helped bring the text to life.
